September 8th Weekly Update
Two new episodes of U-Boat have been released. Wormholefundamentals.com is getting a make-over. Plenty of pew to talk about this week as well.
Episode 11: Interlude was released yesterday. In this episode Asay and friends get owned by ECM… More than once. They also score a couple of kills in lowsec. A very laid-back episode this one, in contrast to episode 10.
Episode 12: “Challenge Aceepted” wherein we tell Asay to go and find a carrier for us to kill. A written battle report can also be found below.
Asayanami and a couple of other adhocrats are in the process of giving the website a makeover, converting it to look much more readable, and also including stuff like an official corp blog as well as links to our recruitment formula and requirements as well as other recruitment and corp related info. I do not have any screenshots to post, but I have played around on it myself and I can guarantee that it looks fantastic. We should be ready to release it in two weeks time from what I was able to gather.
We got a bunch of fights and ganks this week. Here is a run-down of all the ones that had AARs written about them or that I was personally there for.
Old bookmarks lead to dead Nidhoggur
On a late night scanning spree one of our scanners found a C4 Black Hole with 53 sigs, and decided to scan them all down, because he is a tenacious baws. He finds a lot of sites, and a couple of wormhole connections. After jumping into one of the wormhole connections, he finds several old bookmarks. As he checks our mapping tool, he is told that we had visited that hole a whole 12 hours ago. He checks the bookmarks, with one leading to a nullsec ratting system. In it, he finds several ratting carriers, two of which dock up as soon as he enters local. He locates the third with his directional scan, warp to the anomaly, and spot a Nidhoggur finishing up a site. I will paraphrase the AAR, written by Nitrah, as it explains the next part perfectly.
We form up as he finishes the last wave of battleships and proceeds to… Sit around with his thumb up his ass. For at least five minutes. Total bait, I think. We finish forming up a mixed fleet of 8ish pilots, and I decloak and throw down the hero point. He autotargets me back. No drones. He went to get a beer. Not wanting to alert him that he’s in trouble, I hold fire. Our fleet arrives, and I bug out to go get another ship. He dies as I’m on my way back to Hub. I grab the Mammoth and go back to loot him.
On a personal note, this happened half an hour after I went to bed *grumbles*
Disavowed, comes a-knocking
As some adhocrats were sitting around waiting for a T1 cruiser FFA to start, a cry for help is heard from a PI-running Orca. He is under attack by several hostile T3 Cruisers. The Orca dies before any real support can arrive, but a battle Exequror, intended for the FFA, bravely responds to the call for help, only to get asploded. It’s quickly realized that we have a new connection in Hub. A fleet is quickly formed, with a mix of armor dps ships and several Guardians. The fleet warps to the new connection, where a dozen or so T3s are sitting on the hole. As the fleet lands, about 20 more hostiles jump in, including six Guardians and a bunch more T3s. The order to scatter is given within seconds. Sadly a few high-value ships are tackled and gunned down in short order.
Small Gang Nullsec Roam ends in a nice brawl
We were roaming around nullsec in a kitchen sink fleet consisting of some navy cruisers, T3 BCs and two Jaguars. While scoring a few kills, including a Thorax and Cyno Anathema, it was a rather uneventful roam until we ran into another gang consisting of 2 Tornados, 1 Blaster brawling Gnosis, and 2 well-piloted Scythes. They first jump the Gnosis in as bait, and while we get him into deep armor, the Scythes arrive in time to pull him out of the fire. We switch to a Tornado, which turns out to be prayertanked. We quickly blow him up, after which we switch to a Scythe, but by this point one of our Taloses is dead and the rest of the fleet is quickly going down or scattering. End result. Note that there was a second Scythe.
“Challenge Accepted” (The fight in U-Boat 12)
It’s Saturday night. We had just finished running cap escalations in the unusually high amount of anoms (10) we had in our home system. Some of us are not quite done with the isk-making yet, so we go and start doing anoms in a new connection that was opened up shortly after we were done in Hub. Asayanami exclaims “But I wanna pvp…” and someone responds with “Go… and find us a carrier. Then we’ll come kill it.”
It took less than five minutes. No seriously, he found a carrier to kill within five minutes, and had it tackled 2-3 minutes after that. In our static. On a hole they had just crashed. We believe they thought we came from that hole, when in reality they had not found our connection yet. It couldn’t have been any better. Okay, maybe if we had gotten the Moros as well it would’ve been perfect.
We proceeded to pile into the hole, and someone went back for a Bhaalgorn. The enemy had Archon, Tempest, Proteus, Arazu, Navy Geddon. As well as a… Unusually fit Raven. We believe it to be a variation of the fit shown in The Official Ship Fitting Guide.
They also warped a Moros in at 60km, but everyone was so busy worrying about transversal and the brawl around the carrier that noone thought to go tackle it and it simply warped away after it’s siege cycle ended.
After 6 or 7 minutes of brawling around the carrier, our Bhaalgorn and Curse finally started breaking the Carrier, and soon after that the enemy ships started exploding as they were no longer recieving reps. GFs were exchanged and the residents were assured that the fight would be shown in U-Boat episode 12 and to look out for it. After looking at the battle report, I am sad to see that we did not in fact get the Proteus, which I originally thought.
