U-Boat, Episode 17: Chasing Geese!
So. Dear Diary. Today we had a strange and awesome fight that taught us valuable life lessons and the meaning of friendship.
After two hours of scanning down a link to highsec and then waiting for people to take out freighters and get them back to the wormhole in order to finally get ships in for the tournament, we ran into hostile targets in two systems connected to our static. The first appeared to be the fragmented remnants of the collapsed Verge of Collapse, hailing from Wormhole 1. In the other corner, Jedi Path had just rolled from their home station into Wormhole 2. Both were connected to the static.
Now, we were hoping to just be going along our merry way, getting our ships into the system, when a couple of T3s from Jedi Path warped to TtoH and were engaged. Combat was had when a large hostile fleet with Guardian support was located on DScan. Thankfully, we were close to the hole, and were able to burn to it, jump through, and reship rapidly out of random junk into an armor DPS fleet.
At the time, we were only intending to hold off this fight, so Asay warped to the hole in an Archon, while we warped in with assorted DPS. A good series of jams from our ECM combined with the many Scan Resolution damps we had available to us broke their Guardian chain. They were forced to retreat, unable to stop our wonderful Archon.
First, their XLASB Tengu broke. Next went down one of their Guardians. And finally, we were able to converge and blap the most expensive Damnation I have seen in a long while.
As they left, we could not pursue through a newly sent Stage 2 hole without logistics. A call was made for three pilots to reship into Guardians and once they were on the hole, we jumped through into Jedi Path evacuating from a hostile shield kiting Ishtar gang. Between us and the Ishtar gang, a Loki was blapped to hell. We attempted to kill a Sabre dropping bubbles for the hostile gang, but we were unable to nab it at range. Knowing that these were the residents of WH1, I gave the command to burn out the bubble and align to WH1.
In my confusion, I gave a poor command to warp to WH1. Callisto was tackled in his Damnation, so we immediately spun around and were barely able to apply reps when he was at 5% armor left. Damps kept their Rapier from applying webs that would get our ships damaged, we started shooting drones, but we were unable to do anything in order to reach and murder their ships. An interceptor on our side was killed in the line of duty, as was Nilz whose computer unfortunately chose now to freeze up.
A few attempts at pursuit were given. We tried chasing them to their home system, but we were unable to tackle the nano Ishtar that landed on WH1, and thus it simply warped off again rather than being forced through and murdered. We attempted to get a bubble ready to possibly catch them in a trap between holes, but then they chose to stop coming to the fights.
So they left, we went back to TtoH, and we attempted to get the fleet + an Orca back into H. When the hole went Stage 3 as Cruisers were jumping through.
And then, Jedi Path landed on top of us. While I should have given the command to warp subcaps to K2 and the Orca into H more swiftly and this likely would have saved another ship, I did not, and thus we took our most heavy losses due to the botched exfil.
Overall, we came out net ahead, due to the 2B ISK Damnation loss coupled with a Tengu, Loki, and Guardian. However, we had losses that could have been easily avoided with more foresight.
